1. EU - CHINA river basin management program
EU-China River Basin Management Program is implemented by European Union, MEP of China (Environmental Protection Bureaus in Shanxi, Shandong and Henan provinces) and Ministry of Water Resources of China. FECO will be responsible for this program on behalf of MEP. Of all the funds of this program, Euro 25 million comes from EU, Euro 79 million are domestic funds and Euro 82.5 million are provided by the World Bank. This program aims to promote China’s capability in integrated basin management of water resources and water environment through establishing platforms for policy dialogues and learning experiences from EU Water Framework Directive. The policy dialogue will focus on the integrated basin management in Yellow River and Yangtze River. The priority in Yellow River basin will be water pollution control and in Yangtze River basin, integrated management of water resources. The program will also provide support to the Changjiang Pearl River Watershed Rehabilitation Project (CPRWRP) which will benefit the local residents living in the degraded environment of Yangtze River and Pearl River basin. The River Basin Management Program was launched in 2007 and is expected to be finished in 2012.
2. Managing water scarcity: intelligent tools and cooperative strategies
Funded by the EU Sixth Framework Program, this project is implemented by FECO, as an independent consulting agenc, and another 11 domestic and foreign research institutes. The total investment for this project is Euro 800 thousand, all coming from European Union. The project mainly focuses on the integrated management of water resources. Its objective is to develop innovative and cooperative policies and management strategies of water resources management through comparative research of traditional and modern management expertise and practices in one basin. This project was launched in 2007 and is expected to be finished in 2010.
