The Sino-Norwegian Environmental Cooperation

The bilateral co-operation between China and Norway is focused on the environmental sector. Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Royal Norwegian Embassy have conducted many projects according to a MoU between Norway and China from 2001 and referring to a MoU between Norway's Ministry for Environment (MoE) and State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA) from 1995. A new MoU was signed between MoE and China 's Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP, former SEPA) in June 2008.

Projects in Progress:

Sino-Norwegian Competence Building Project on Environmental Management

Purpose:  A platform for dissemination of the environmental management derived through the Sino-Norwegian Environmental Cooperation programme is established and training is provided. 
Implementing agencies:  FECO (China’s MEP) and SFT (Norway’s MoE)
Duration:  2009-2013
Norwegian funds:  NOK 21,66 million

Improving Environmental Five-Year plans

To improve the planning effectiveness in three pilot provinces, serving as an important basis for the national evaluation of the 11th FYEP and being a model for future Chinese provincial planning at large.
